Leadership Development
Leadership skills can be developed but requires desire, focus, practice and feedback. As noted by Harvard Professor John Kotter, “Leadership is not management – it is about setting direction, aligning constituents, and inspiring others versus the fundamental management skills of planning, budgeting, staffing, and problem solving.”
For leadership development to be truly effective at the organizational level, learning activities must explicitly link to organizational strategy and priorities and focus on those aspects of leadership where behavioural change will have the highest amount of impact.
Leadership development is typically undertaken at the individual level. Recently, some progressive organizations are seeking to enhance the effectiveness of their management teams through leadership team development.
